Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) is a condition which affects the brain's ability to properly transfer an auditory signal to the language processing area, where the information can be decoded. With CAPD, an auditory signal is distorted or compromised in some way before the brain is able to process the message. CAPD is different from hearing impairment. If your child exhibits some or most of these difficulties, an ASHA certified audiologist can assess your child. Once diagnosed, a Speech-Language Pathologist can provide therapy to help improve auditory skills and provide strategies and training to teachers and parents.
