Speech & Language Connections 3901 GE Road Suite 4 Bloomington, IL 61704 (309) 663-4172 Pediatric Speech Pathology Practice Moves to New Location and Changes Name Bloomington, Illinois, October 20 —Speech & Language Connections, a pediatric speech pathology practice located at 3901 GE Road in Bloomington is moving to a new location at 2412 E. Washington in late October of this year. The move comes after the practice began growing and needed more space. “Adding a behavior consultant and a reading specialist just forced us to have to rethink our space and layout needs”, commented the owner of the practice, Basha Ontiveros. In addition, the center will be changing its name to Speech & Learning Connections, to better reflect the diverse services it offers. The new facility will be located in an easily accessible area just east of the corner of Prospect and Washington streets in Bloomington. The practice, which was established in 2003, has recently begun offering several new services in addition to its specialty in Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology. Kim Williamson, a Behavior Consultant (soon to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst) who specializes in autism and developmental disabilities recently joined the practice. “We are hoping to elevate the quality of services we can offer families in this community by providing a team approach to assessing and working with children and their families,” stated Kim. Kim has extensive training in a form of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) known as Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB). This approach to teaching children with autism and related language difficulties is communication based and incorporates sign language to facilitate language development. In addition to providing comprehensive services such as speech, language, and behavior consultation, Basha Ontiveros was recently certified as a dyslexia testing specialist. “My hope is to be able to catch reading problems in children long before they destroy their self-esteem and confidence.” The practice offers intensive individual reading programs using an Orton-Gillingham method, the only reading method scientifically proven to be effective for individuals with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. The practice has also begun offering baby sign classes and will soon be expanding its scope of practice to include early intervention services for children ages 0 – 3 years of age. |
